Listen to me

my girl

I know it’s hard

I know you hurt

but it won’t always

Life was made for you and me in all ways

They make fun

of me

of you

an old lady and a girl

young mothers

with their children in tow

She’s gone

I know it’s hard

I know it hurts

She was my girl too

Beautiful, like you

deep and full of sorrow too

Let them laugh at the old lady

when she picks you up from school

Let them ride in fancy cars

while we walk

head high giggling

all the way home

Let them believe they steal moments

with the corner of their eyes

pretending not to look

they don’t know

that you are loved

more than most

They don’t know

that the stars
